REvil ransomware gang has been arrested in Russia by the Russian Intelligence Bureau. The video footage of the arrested incident was also released by the authority.

Recently during an arrest of the gang, the Russian authority said that they have dismantled the ransomware crime group named ‘REvil’ and charged several of its members.

Russian Intelligence Bureau witnessed the encroachment of the existence of the Ransomware groups and collected the cash and other currency including cars and weapons. The United States had offered a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the gang members.

The Russian authority says it had acted after receiving the tip of such REvil ransomware group in its country. Not a single person of Russia has been extradited to the United States.

The Russian state news service Tass said about the arrest and said Ravil “Developed malicious software” and “Organised the theft of money from the bank account of foreign citizens”.

The Intelligence of Russia said that it had seized 426 million rubles including $6 million worth of cryptocurrency. The authority said it also had seized 20 “premium cars” that were purchased in the proceeds of crime.

FSB Statement

The Russian Intelligence Bureau said about the arrest in a statement as “The organised criminal association has ceased to exist and the information structure used for the criminal purpose was neutralised,” said by FSB.

Such announcement comes during a standoff between Russia and The USA. Moscow also raised his demand for Western guarantee about the further increase and also said that NATO will not expand further as its troops were seen in Ukraine border.

REvil Group

REvil ransomware gang was one of the most prolific ransomware gangs. From early September, last year it was aimed to be disbanded by the authority.
